The Marcy QM16L is a 16mm Design Line flexible universal exterior replacement molding, sold as a 75ft roll. It shares the same flexible compound and channel-fit as the standard QM16, but adds a decorative accent integrated into the outer face — giving the installation a more styled, OEM-like appearance from the exterior. Width Selection Guide
Measure the gap between the glass edge and the surrounding trim or channel. At 16mm, QM16L fits the same openings as the standard QM16. The Design Line distinction is about appearance, not fit — choose QM16L when aesthetics matter and the vehicle originally had a styled exterior trim detail. For a clean standard replacement, QM16 is the same width without the accent.
What is Quantum Molding?
Quantum Molding is a flexible exterior universal replacement molding designed to fit a wide range of glass openings without requiring a vehicle-specific part. It installs along the exterior glass edge and provides a clean, weather-resistant finish. It's commonly used when OEM molding is damaged, missing, or no longer available as a direct replacement.
What does "Design Line" mean?
Design Line is a decorative accent — a styled ridge or groove — integrated into the outer face of the molding. It runs the full length of the strip and gives the installed molding a more finished, OEM-style appearance when viewed from the exterior. If the original vehicle molding had a visible trim detail and you want the replacement to look intentional rather than functional, Design Line is the right choice.
How do I select the right width?
Measure the gap between the glass edge and the surrounding trim or pinchweld. The molding width should match this gap closely. QM16L fits the same 16mm channels as the standard QM16 — the Design Line accent does not affect how the molding seats in the channel.
How is this installed?
Press the molding into place along the glass edge, typically after the glass has been set. Work around the perimeter section by section, pressing firmly into the channel. For tight curves, a brief pass with a heat gun on low makes the molding more pliable. A molding tool or wide flathead helps seat it evenly without scuffing the surrounding trim.
How much molding does one job use?
A standard windshield perimeter uses approximately 12 to 16 feet of exterior molding. A 75ft roll covers roughly 4 to 6 full installs. For smaller glass like quarter windows or rear sliders, a roll goes significantly further.
