Marcy PUGM3 is a 7mm sponge underglass molding — the most commonly used sponge width in the PUGM line, fitting a broad range of mid-size domestic and import vehicles. Sponge construction compresses slightly under the glass for a conforming, forgiving fit across minor pinch weld variations. Made in the USA. Sold per 75-foot roll.

Width Selection Guide

PUGM3's 7mm width is one of the most versatile options in the PUGM line and works across a wide range of vehicles. For shallower pinch welds, see PUGM2 (5mm sponge). For deeper channels, see PUGM6 (9.5mm sponge) or PUGM7 (10mm solid). For a firm sponge option at 7mm, see PUGM4.

What is underglass molding used for?

Underglass molding is placed along the pinch weld before the glass is set into the urethane bead. It provides a consistent resting surface that keeps the glass at the correct height and prevents it from sinking before the urethane cures. It also protects the glass edge from direct contact with the metal pinch weld.

When should I use sponge vs. solid vs. firm sponge PUGM?

Sponge (this product) compresses slightly under the glass, accommodating minor pinch weld height variation across the opening — useful when the pinch weld isn't perfectly consistent. Solid profiles (PUGM1, PUGM7) hold a fixed height without compression. Firm sponge (PUGM4, PUGM5) compresses with more resistance than standard sponge — a middle ground for situations requiring some flexibility but more control over final glass height.

How many feet of underglass molding does a typical installation require?

A standard passenger vehicle windshield opening requires approximately 10–14 feet of underglass molding along the pinch weld. A 75-foot roll covers 5–7 complete installations — a practical shop supply quantity.

Is Marcy PUGM compatible with urethane and ribbon sealer installations?

Yes — Marcy PUGM underglass molding works with both urethane and ribbon sealer methods. The 7mm sponge profile is particularly well-suited to urethane installations on a wide range of vehicles where slight pinch weld variation is expected.

How does PUGM3 differ from PUGM4, which is also 7mm?

PUGM3 is standard sponge — it compresses more readily under the glass, making it more forgiving on inconsistent or wavy pinch welds. PUGM4 is firm sponge at the same 7mm width — it resists compression more, giving the installer better control over final glass height while still accommodating minor variations. Use PUGM3 when you need maximum conformity; use PUGM4 when you want more firmness with just a little give.
