Marcy ME6495 high-density foam tape in the taller 5/16" profile — for auto glass installations where a higher setting block is needed to achieve the correct glass-to-body height. Single-sided adhesive bonds to the vehicle body, leaving the glass free to reposition before the urethane sets. High-density foam maintains its 5/16" height under glass load throughout the cure period. Compatible with all urethane adhesive types. Flexible enough to follow contoured sills and round corners without buckling.

Specifications

  • Part Number: ME6495
  • Height: 5/16" (7.9mm)
  • Width: 1/4" (6.4mm)
  • Length: 18ft per roll
  • Adhesive: Single-sided (body side)
  • Density: High
  • Application: Setting blocks for auto glass installation requiring taller block height

Application

Apply to the sill area of the vehicle opening before glass installation. Use the 5/16" profile when the OEM procedure or vehicle's channel depth requires a taller setting block than the standard 1/4". Single-sided adhesive keeps the glass free to reposition if needed. Cut to length with scissors or a razor blade.

What does setting block foam tape do?

Setting block foam tape sits between the bottom edge of the glass and the vehicle body. Its primary purpose is to hold the glass at the correct installation height so it doesn't sink under its own weight before the urethane cures. Without setting blocks, heavy glass can settle unevenly during cure, causing fitment and leak problems. High-density foam maintains its height under load throughout the cure period.

When should I use 5/16" height instead of 1/4"?

The 5/16" profile (ME6495) is used when the vehicle's glass channel depth, pinch weld geometry, or OEM installation procedure requires a taller setting block than the standard 1/4" (ME6494). Common applications include vehicles with deeper channels or thicker glass edge profiles where the 1/4" block doesn't bring the glass to the correct height. When in doubt, measure the gap between the glass bottom edge and the pinch weld in the seated position.

Why is the adhesive only on one side?

The single-sided adhesive bonds to the car body but leaves the glass free to be positioned and adjusted. If the tape adhered to both surfaces, any glass repositioning after placement would tear the tape. The glass rests on top of the foam profile — held by its weight and eventually by the curing urethane — while the foam maintains consistent height underneath.

How much foam tape does a typical installation use?

Most installations use two to four short sections placed along the bottom sill — typically 3–8 inches each for a total of 8–20 inches per installation. At 18 feet per roll, one ME6495 provides enough tape for many vehicles. Cut strips to length with scissors or a razor blade.

Is this tape compatible with all urethane adhesives?

Yes — ME6495 is compatible with all standard urethane adhesives used in automotive glass installation. The foam does not react with or inhibit urethane curing. It works across all OEM-grade, extended-cure, and fast-cure urethane systems.
