Marcy ME612C foam-core butyl tape in a single-application box — the correct butyl for windshield installation where foam-core is required. The foam center delivers compression deflection and rebound that solid butyl cannot match, creating a leak-proof seal even when the glass settles unevenly during cure. The 6mm profile is the standard width for most passenger car and light truck windshield applications. Many Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury OE installation procedures specifically require foam-core butyl — ME612C is the go-to product for those platforms. Individually boxed and ready to use on the job.

Specifications

  • Part Number: ME612C
  • Size: 6mm × 12ft
  • Core Type: Foam-core
  • Format: Individually boxed (single-application)
  • Application: Windshield and fixed-glass installation

Application

Apply to the pinch weld or vehicle channel before setting the glass. Designed for windshield and urethane-bonded fixed-glass installations where foam-core butyl is required by OEM or quality-standard procedures. Not intended for mechanically-fastened glass — use solid-core butyl (ME615S, ME815S, ME915S) for those applications.

What is foam-core butyl and why is it different from solid-core?

Foam-core butyl has a cellular foam center wrapped in butyl. The foam compresses as the glass is set and rebounds to fill gaps and voids, creating a conforming, leak-free seal. Solid-core butyl seals well but doesn't have the same rebound. Ford, Lincoln, Mercury OE procedures and many professional installation quality standards require foam-core because of this superior void-filling and leak-resistance characteristic.

Which vehicles require foam-core butyl by OEM spec?

Many Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury vehicles specifically call out foam-core butyl in their OEM windshield installation procedures. When servicing a Ford platform, default to foam-core. For other makes, refer to the vehicle-specific procedure — both foam-core and solid-core are used industry-wide, and using the wrong type can affect seal quality.

When should I use 6mm vs. 8mm foam-core butyl?

The 6mm profile (ME612C) suits the majority of standard passenger cars and light trucks with typical pinch weld channel dimensions. The 8mm profile (ME810B) is used when a wider bead is specified or when the channel is larger than standard. Match the profile to the OEM procedure or pinch weld dimension — 6mm is the most common choice across most vehicle platforms.

Does foam-core butyl work in cold weather?

Yes. Marcy foam-core butyl remains workable across a wide temperature range. In temperatures below 40°F, warm the tape slightly before application to improve conformability and adhesion to the pinch weld. Avoid overheating — excessive heat will deform the foam core before the glass is set.

Why is individually boxed butyl useful for mobile installers?

The Butyl-in-a-Box format keeps the tape clean and protected from dust, UV, and contamination until needed. For mobile installers working from a van or truck, it eliminates the handling issues of unwrapped bulk rolls and simplifies per-job material tracking. Each box contains a single-application length — open, use, done.
