What does this retainer secure on the Civic?

The 21651 is used on Honda Civic fender applications to secure fender liners (also called inner fender splash shields) and fender trim panels to the body. The fender liner keeps road debris, water, and mud away from engine bay components and the inner fender structure. A broken retainer allows the liner to flap, which can cause noise and damage.

How does a drive-pin push-type retainer work?

A drive-pin retainer consists of a body that fits into a mounting hole and a center pin that, when pressed flush, expands the retainer legs to lock it in place. To install, insert the retainer body into the hole with the pin raised, then press the pin down to expand and lock the clip. To remove, use a trim removal tool to pry up the center pin, which collapses the legs and releases the retainer.

How do I replace fender liner retainers on a Honda Civic?

With the wheel turned for access, use a plastic trim removal tool to pry up the center pins on each retainer. Once the pins are raised, the retainer bodies can be pushed out from behind. Clean any debris from the mounting holes. Press new 21651 retainers into the holes with the pin in the raised position, then press the pin flush to lock them before reinstalling the liner.

What pack size should I order?

The 21651 is available in packs of 25, 50, 100, and 150. A pack of 25 covers a full fender liner replacement on most Civic configurations with extras. A pack of 50 is recommended for shops that want to keep stock on hand for routine service. Packs of 100 and 150 offer the best per-piece value for high-volume operations.

Can these retainers be reused after removal?

Drive-pin retainers can often be reused if the center pin and legs are undamaged during removal. Inspect each retainer after taking it out — if the legs are cracked, deformed, or the pin is broken, replace with a new 21651. Retainers that are structurally intact but have compressed retention tabs should also be replaced to ensure a secure fit.
