Why does this one clip fit so many Subaru models?
Subaru standardized their cowl panel vent hole design across their entire global platform lineup from the late 2000s onward. The 91486-KJ010 vent cap geometry became the universal standard across the Impreza-based (Impreza, Crosstrek, WRX, BRZ) and Legacy-based (Legacy, Outback, Forester, Ascent) platforms. It's one of the most universally compatible clips in the Subaru fastener catalog.
What's the difference between 21531 and 21500?
They're different designs for different holes. The 21531 (91486-KJ010) is a vent cap — a broad, flat clip that covers and caps cowl panel vent holes. The 21500 (90914-0063) is a screw-type retainer that secures the cowl grille panel itself to the body. Most Subaru windshield jobs need both types. Replace all clips at the same time for a clean, complete job.
Does this fit the 2022+ WRX?
Yes — the 4th generation WRX (2022+, VA chassis successor) uses the same 91486-KJ010 cowl panel vent cap as prior generations. Subaru maintained the same cowl vent hole geometry through the current WRX. The WRX STI was discontinued after 2021, but the standard WRX continues to use this part.
How many vent caps does one Subaru need per windshield job?
Most Subaru cowl panels have 4–8 vent cap holes depending on the model. We sell in packs of 15, 30, 60, and 120 pieces — perfect for individual jobs or shop stock across multiple vehicles. Volume pricing is applied automatically.
When should I replace these?
Replace them any time the cowl panel is removed. These vent caps can become brittle with age and UV exposure, and the locking tabs may break during removal. Installing fresh caps ensures a clean, weather-tight fit that keeps debris out of the cowl cavity.
