What's the difference between 15931605 and 11519031?

GM superseded the original part number 15931605 with 11519031. They are functionally equivalent — the same dimensions, same sealer, same triple-head design. Our 21379 replaces both. If your parts catalog shows either number, this is the correct replacement.

Why does this retainer have an integrated sealer?

Cowl grille panels on trucks are exposed to significant water during rain and car washing. The sealer ring around the stem compresses against the panel surface when the clip is seated, creating a watertight barrier at the hole. This prevents water from entering the cowl cavity and causing corrosion or interior leaks.

How does a triple-head design work in this application?

The three stacked heads engage at different depths as the clip is pressed through the panel stack — the bottom head passes through the inner panel, the middle head locks in the outer panel, and the top head (with sealer) seats against the panel surface. This three-point engagement provides much higher pull-out resistance than a single or double-head clip.

How many retainers does my Silverado or Tahoe need?

GM truck cowl grille panels typically use 8–16 of these retainers depending on the specific model and year. We sell in packs of 10, 20, 40, and 60 pieces. Replacing the full set during service ensures consistent sealing and holding force across the entire panel.

When should I replace these?

Replace them any time the cowl grille panel is removed — typically during windshield replacement on these trucks. The integrated sealer is single-use and should not be reused once compressed. Always install fresh retainers to maintain the water seal.
