Marcy PUGM2 is a 5mm sponge underglass molding — the narrowest profile in the PUGM line, designed for vehicles with shallow pinch welds. Sponge construction compresses slightly under the glass for a forgiving, conforming fit. Made in the USA. Sold per 75-foot roll.

Width Selection Guide

PUGM2's 5mm width is suited to vehicles with shallower pinch welds — typically compact cars and many imports. Verify pinch weld depth before ordering. For deeper channels, see PUGM3 (7mm sponge), PUGM6 (9.5mm sponge), PUGM1 (8mm solid), or PUGM7 (10mm solid).

What is underglass molding used for?

Underglass molding — also called setting tape or setting bead — is placed along the pinch weld before the glass is set into the urethane bead. It keeps the glass at the correct height, prevents it from sinking before the urethane cures, and protects the glass edge from direct contact with the metal pinch weld.

When should I use sponge vs. solid vs. firm sponge PUGM?

Sponge profiles (PUGM2, PUGM3, PUGM6) compress under the weight of the glass — they're ideal for vehicles where slight pinch weld height variation exists across the opening, as the compression accommodates inconsistencies. Solid profiles (PUGM1, PUGM7) don't compress and provide a fixed glass height. Firm sponge (PUGM4, PUGM5) compresses with more resistance — a middle ground between full sponge and solid.

How many feet of underglass molding does a typical installation require?

A standard passenger vehicle windshield opening typically requires 10–14 feet of underglass molding along the pinch weld. A 75-foot roll covers approximately 5–7 complete installations — a practical single-roll supply for most shops.

Is Marcy PUGM compatible with urethane and ribbon sealer installations?

Yes — Marcy PUGM underglass molding works with both urethane and ribbon sealer methods. The sponge profile is especially well-suited to urethane installations on vehicles where slight pinch weld irregularities might cause height variation under a rigid molding.

How does PUGM2 differ from the other PUGM profiles?

PUGM2 is the narrowest sponge profile at 5mm. PUGM3 (7mm sponge) and PUGM6 (9.5mm sponge) are wider sponge options. PUGM4 (7mm firm sponge) and PUGM5 (6mm firm sponge) offer more resistance to compression. PUGM1 (8mm solid) and PUGM7 (10mm solid) don't compress at all. Choose based on pinch weld measurement and the compression behavior needed.
