Marcy PUGM1 is an 8mm solid underglass molding — the foundation strip that sits between the glass and the pinch weld during windshield installation. Solid construction provides a firm, dimensionally stable profile that holds its shape without compression. Made in the USA. Sold per 75-foot roll.

Width Selection Guide

Select PUGM width based on the measured pinch weld or channel dimension of the vehicle being serviced. The molding should fill the channel adequately — too narrow and the glass sits unevenly; too wide and the glass sits too high. Verify measurement before ordering.

What is underglass molding used for?

Underglass molding — also called setting tape or setting bead — is placed along the pinch weld before the glass is set into the urethane bead. It provides a consistent resting surface that keeps the glass at the correct height and prevents it from sinking into the urethane before it cures. It also protects the glass edge from direct contact with the metal body.

When should I use solid vs. sponge vs. firm sponge PUGM?

Solid PUGM (this product) holds its dimension without compressing — best when the pinch weld height is consistent and you need the glass to sit at a specific, fixed height. Sponge profiles compress slightly to accommodate minor variations in pinch weld height across the opening. Firm sponge sits between the two — it compresses somewhat but with more resistance than standard sponge. Most shops stock all three to match vehicle-specific conditions.

How many feet of underglass molding does a typical installation require?

A standard passenger vehicle windshield opening typically requires 10–14 feet of underglass molding, placed along the bottom and sides of the pinch weld. A 75-foot roll covers approximately 5–7 complete windshield installations, making it a practical single-roll shop supply.

Is Marcy PUGM compatible with urethane and ribbon sealer installations?

Yes — Marcy PUGM underglass molding is designed for use with both urethane (most common on modern vehicles) and ribbon sealer (used on older vehicles). The solid profile is particularly reliable under urethane installations where a firm, non-compressing base is needed for consistent glass height across the opening.

How does PUGM1 differ from the other PUGM profiles (PUGM2 through PUGM7)?

PUGM1 is the widest solid profile at 8mm. PUGM2 (5mm sponge) and PUGM3 (7mm sponge) are narrower and compress more. PUGM4 and PUGM5 are firm sponge profiles at 7mm and 6mm respectively. PUGM6 is a 9.5mm sponge and PUGM7 is a 10mm solid — both for deeper channels. Choose based on your pinch weld measurement and the compression behavior needed for the installation.
