This nylon rearview mirror adapter bracket is designed for GM and Chrysler windshield replacements where the new glass comes with a pre-attached steel mirror button. Rather than bonding a new button to the glass, the adapter slips directly over the steel button already on the replacement windshield, allowing the original interior rearview mirror to be reinstalled without modification or adhesive application.

What is a mirror button adapter bracket?

An adapter bracket is used when replacement windshield glass comes with a steel mirror button already bonded to it. Instead of bonding a new button yourself, this nylon adapter slips over the pre-attached steel button, creating the correct interface for the rearview mirror clip to snap onto — eliminating the need for mirror button adhesive in these cases.

What is the difference between this adapter (19498) and the bond-on mirror buttons (19393, 19394)?

The 19498 is a nylon slip-over adapter for use when the replacement glass already has a steel button attached. The 19393 (Ford) and 19394 (GM) are steel buttons designed to be bonded directly to bare windshield glass when no button is present. Use this adapter when the replacement glass comes pre-buttonized; use the steel buttons when starting from bare glass.

Do I need adhesive to install this adapter?

No. The 19498 adapter slips over the existing steel button on the replacement glass — no adhesive is required for the adapter itself. The steel button is already bonded to the glass at the factory. This makes installation faster and eliminates the waiting time associated with mirror button adhesive curing.

How do I know if my replacement glass needs this adapter or a bond-on button?

Inspect the replacement glass before installation. If it already has a small steel stud or button bonded to the inside surface in the mirror mounting area, use this adapter (19498). If the glass is bare in that area with no button, you need a bond-on steel mirror button — 19394 for GM vehicles or 19393 for Ford vehicles.

Will the rearview mirror clip securely onto this adapter?

Yes. The adapter is designed to replicate the OEM button profile so the factory-style rearview mirror clip engages securely. As with any mirror button installation, verify the mirror is fully seated and shows no movement before returning the vehicle to the customer.
