Marcy Solid-Core Butyl Tape — 5/16" × 15ft | Bulk Pack | ME815S
✅ In Stock
Marcy ME815S solid-core butyl tape in a 15-foot bulk roll — the 5/16" round profile for shops doing high-volume mechanically-fastened glass work where a medium-diameter bead is needed. Same all-weather solid butyl formula as the individually boxed ME825, in a longer roll at a lower cost per foot. For applications where the standard 1/4" diameter is too narrow to seal the channel completely. Made in the USA. Not intended for windshield installation — use foam-core butyl (ME612C or ME810B) for windshield applications.
Specifications
- Part Number: ME815S
- Size: 5/16" (7.9mm) round × 15ft
- Core Type: Solid-core
- Format: Bulk roll
- Made in: USA
- Application: Mechanically-fastened side and back glass, general automotive sealing
Application
Apply along the glass channel or frame opening before pressing the glass into position. Cut to length as needed. The 5/16" profile fills wider channels than the standard 1/4" — common on mid-size trucks, vans, and SUVs. Do not use for urethane windshield installations.
What is solid-core butyl used for?
Solid-core butyl seals mechanically-fastened glass — side windows, vent glass, sliding rear windows, and quarter glass where fasteners hold position. Also used for door poly vapor barrier re-adhesion and general body sealing. It is not the correct product for urethane-bonded windshield installation — use foam-core butyl for those applications.
What is the difference between the bulk ME815S and the boxed ME825?
Both contain the same 5/16" solid-core butyl formula. ME825 is individually boxed in a pre-cut 10-foot single-application length — ideal for mobile installers. ME815S is a 15-foot bulk roll at a lower cost per foot — better suited to shop environments doing multiple installations where material cost per job is the priority.
When should I use 5/16" instead of 1/4" or 3/8"?
Use 5/16" when the channel gap is too wide for the 1/4" to fill completely, but the 3/8" would make glass positioning difficult. The 5/16" is the middle profile — common on mid-size trucks, vans, and SUVs with moderately wider channels than standard passenger cars. Match the profile to the gap width in the seated glass position.
Does solid butyl work in both hot and cold weather?
Yes. Marcy solid butyl is formulated for all-weather use. Warm slightly in cold conditions for better conformability. In hot weather, handle carefully to avoid stretching the bead during placement.
What is the difference between solid-core and foam-core butyl?
Solid-core is an all-butyl bead suited for mechanically-fastened glass and general sealing. Foam-core has a foam center that rebounds to fill voids — required for urethane windshield installation. Do not substitute one for the other in windshield applications.
