Marcy ME615S solid-core butyl tape in a 15-foot bulk roll — the 1/4" round profile for shops doing high-volume mechanically-fastened glass work where cost per foot matters. Same all-weather solid butyl formula as the individually boxed ME625, in a longer roll with a lower cost per foot. Suitable for sealing mechanically-fastened side and back glass, re-adhering door vapor barriers, and general automotive sealing tasks. Made in the USA. Not intended for windshield installation — use foam-core butyl (ME612C or ME810B) for windshield applications.

Specifications

  • Part Number: ME615S
  • Size: 1/4" (6.4mm) round × 15ft
  • Core Type: Solid-core
  • Format: Bulk roll
  • Made in: USA
  • Application: Mechanically-fastened side and back glass, door vapor barriers, general automotive sealing

Application

Apply along the glass channel or frame opening before pressing the glass into position. Cut to length as needed. For mechanically-fastened side, rear, and quarter glass, door poly vapor barrier re-adhesion, and general body sealing tasks. Do not use for urethane windshield installations.

What is solid-core butyl used for?

Solid-core butyl seals mechanically-fastened glass — side windows, vent glass, sliding rear windows, and quarter glass where fasteners hold position. Also used for door poly vapor barrier re-adhesion and general body sealing. It is not the correct product for urethane-bonded windshield installation — use foam-core butyl for those applications.

What is the difference between the bulk ME615S and the boxed ME625?

Both contain the same 1/4" solid-core butyl formula. ME625 is individually boxed in a pre-cut 10-foot single-application length — ideal for mobile installers who want clean, ready-to-use tape on the job. ME615S is a 15-foot bulk roll at a lower cost per foot — better suited to shop environments doing multiple installations where roll management is practical and material cost per job matters.

When should I use 1/4" vs. 5/16" vs. 3/8" solid butyl?

The 1/4" profile (ME615S/ME625) handles the majority of standard applications and is the most commonly used diameter. Use 5/16" (ME815S/ME825) or 3/8" (ME915S/ME925) when the channel or gap is wider and a fuller bead is needed to seal properly. Match the profile to the gap width in the seated glass position.

Does solid butyl work in both hot and cold weather?

Yes. Marcy solid butyl is formulated for all-weather use. In cold temperatures it stiffens slightly — warm slightly before application for better conformability. In hot weather it's softer and more pliable, aiding application but requiring care not to stretch the bead during placement.

What is the difference between solid-core and foam-core butyl?

Solid-core butyl is an all-butyl bead suited for mechanically-fastened glass and sealing tasks. Foam-core has a cellular foam center that compresses and rebounds — required for urethane windshield installation where the foam fills settling voids during cure. Do not substitute one for the other in windshield applications.
