Universal #8 x 1/2" Phillips Pan Teks Self-Drilling Screw | Zinc-Plated | 9605
✓ In stock
Zinc-plated #8 × 1/2" Phillips pan head Teks screw with #2 drill point for self-drilling into sheet metal without a pilot hole. Used for attaching trim, brackets, and hardware in automotive and general assembly applications where a compact 1/2" length is needed. The #2 drill point bores through light-gauge steel, allowing fast installation with a standard Phillips bit.

What is a Teks screw and how is it different from a standard sheet metal screw?
Teks (also called self-drilling) screws have a drill bit-shaped point that bores its own hole through sheet metal before the threads engage. Standard sheet metal screws require a pre-drilled pilot hole. Teks screws eliminate the pilot hole step, speeding up installation in light-gauge steel trim and bracket applications.
What steel thickness can a #2 drill point penetrate?
A #2 drill point Teks screw is designed for light-gauge sheet metal up to approximately 14–16 gauge (1.6–2mm thick). For heavier gauge steel, use a #3 or #4 drill point Teks screw with a larger drill point diameter capable of penetrating thicker material.
What is the difference between 9605 (1/2" length) and 9606 (3/4" length)?
Both are #8 Phillips pan head Teks screws. The 9605 at 1/2" is suited for thinner panel stacks or applications where screw protrusion beyond the panel must be minimized. The 9606 at 3/4" provides more thread engagement depth for thicker materials or applications requiring more holding strength. Select based on your total material thickness.
Can I use Teks screws in plastic panels?
Teks screws are designed for sheet metal and should not be used for self-drilling into plastic — the drill point is not suited for plastic materials and may crack or split the panel. For plastic panels, use standard sheet metal screws (with pre-drilled pilot holes) or plastic-specific fasteners.
What pack sizes are available?
Available in packs of 100, 200, 300, and 400 to suit individual repairs or shop stock needs.
